A seasoned corporate lawyer with two decades of experience, Siddharth focuses on private equity and venture capital transactions; as well as on cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions. He has been ranked highly amongst private equity lawyers in India for several years by various reputed agencies, including Chambers & Partners – lauded for having “a global business perspective”, “attention to detail” and “excellent technical knowledge”.
Siddharth was brought-up in Bangalore, and went to school at St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School – he graduated in 1990. A Gold Medalist with a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) degree from India’s renowned National Law School of India University, Bangalore, in 1997, Siddharth also holds an LL.M. in International Economic Law from the University of Warwick’s Law School in the U.K., where he was a British Council & Foreign and Commonwealth Office Chevening, as well as a J. N. Tata, Scholar, in 1998.
Siddharth began his law career in 1998 in Mumbai with a leading pan-India law Firm. Prior to becoming a Partner in 2004 in that Firm and heading that Firm’s Bangalore and Chennai offices, he worked in Hong Kong between 2001 and 2004 at the international law firm, O’Melveny & Myers. In 2006, Siddharth co-founded Narasappa, Doraswamy & Raja that merged to form Samvad: Partners in 2013, where he was also one of the co-founders.
Siddharth merged his practice with Argus Partners in 2016 and is currently a Senior Partner and National Executive Director of Argus Partners, a leading national Firm with offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, based in this Firm’s Bangalore office.
Siddharth has regularly demonstrated his interest in academics and is or has been a Visiting Professor in various institutions including NLSIU, Bangalore; Jindal Global Law School; Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science; and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He is also associated as a Visiting or Guest Faculty with the think-tank, The Takshashila Institution.
Siddharth is currently an elected Trustee on the Board of Trustees of the Bangalore International Centre, serving a two-year term from early 2018 until 2020 – he was previously an elected member of the Executive Committee of the BIC from 2016 – 18. He was also a member of the Bangalore Tourism Advisory Committee set-up by the Karnataka Government, through the then Hon’ble IT & BT and Tourism Minister, Mr. Priyank Kharge.
Siddharth is admitted to practice law in India and in England & Wales.
His love for history has lead him to found and run a successful historical walking tour, with his wife, Priya (also an alumna of NLSIU), called “Nandi Valley Walks”. Currently registered as a Ph.D. Scholar, Siddharth is pursuing research on the legal and administrative structures of the Princely State of Mysore, through the biographical prism of one of its Dewans, Sir Albion Rajkumar Banerji, I.C.S. (Retd.), C.S.I., C.IE.
