Born on 25 Jul 1954 in Nainital, Uttarakhand State, Maj Gen Vinod Kumar Bhatt, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers (Bombay Sappers) on 16 Jun 1974.
An alumni of Sainik School, Ghorakhal (Nainital) and graduate of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune, the officer has varied staff and instructional experience. He Commanded the 102 Engineer Regiment (VC). His various staff and command appointments include Instructor Class ‘C’ College of Military Engineering, Pune, Instructor Class ‘C’/`B’ – Indian Military Academy Dehradun, Garrison Engineer (Project) 6360, General Staff Officer I – Military Training Directorate Army Headquarters, Chief Engineer (Navy) Kochi, Chief Engineer (Navy) Mumbai, Deputy Military Secretary in a Command Headquarters, Military Attaché to Vice Chief of Army Staff at Army HQ, Major General Administration, Headquarters Central Command Lucknow, Chief Engineer, Headquarters Western Command and presently Additional Director General Technical Examination, Quarter Master General’s Branch, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army). Maj Gen VK Bhatt, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal has also been appointed as Colonel Commandant, The Bombay Sappers with effect from 01 Oct 2009.
The officer command his unit 102 Engineer Regiment in Sikkim & Pune and was Commandant, the Bombay Engineer Group & Centre, Kirkee, Pune. He was promoted to the rank of Major General with effect from, 24 Dec 2007 and took over the appointment of Major General Administration, Headquarters Central Command on 24 Dec 2007 and presently holding the appointment of Additional Director General of Technical Examination, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) 20 Dec 2010.
Maj Gen VK Bhatt, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal has participated in Rowing, Sailing, Mountaineering and other adventure sports. He has led successful Mountaineering Expeditions to Nanda Devi (1993) and Panchchuli (1998). He has also participated in National Rowing and Sailing Championships. During 1982 Asiad, he was nominated as the first official Indian Rowing Coach and headed the first European Rowing exposure cum training tour. He coached the Rowing Team for Asian Games, Seoul in 1986. He had organized and lead a Motor Cycle Adventure Trip from College of Military Engineering, Pune to Nainital via Mumbai, Baroda, Jaipur, Delhi in May 1977 covering a total distance of 2000 Kilometer approximately. In the National Yachting Championship, he has participated in 1974, 1983 and 2002.
He is a graduate in Environmental Management from Griffith university, Brisbane, Australia. The officer is a post graduate in Electrical Engineering and M.Sc. in Environmental Science, both from Pune University. He is Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) since 1996, International Organisation of Aquatic Association, United Services Institution and Institution of Military Engineers. He is a qualified psychologist and loves to nurture leadership in youth.
Married to Mrs Bina Bhatt a fitness enthusiast and prolific reader, has qualification of MA ,B.Ed to her credit. She had been principal of Holloway Primary School at College of Military Engineering Pune and Professor in the Marathawada Institute of Management, Pune. She is also qualified in Reiki, Art of Living and German language.
