Career Experiences

Mr. Li-Pu Lee, Esq. ranked 9th when he passed the Taiwanese bar and is currently a partner at Formosan Brothers as well as a registered arbitrator with the Arbitration Association of the R.O.C. In addition to practicing law in Taiwan, he was awarded a scholarship from the Dean of Washington University School of Law in St. Louis (U.S.A.), where he obtained both his LL.M. and J.D. degree. Admitted to New York State Bar, Mr. Lee has received a comprehensive legal education in both the United States and Taiwan. He has profound legal knowledge and experience practicing in the fields of international trade, negotiations, transnational merger and acquisition, real estate, contract drafting, tax and transnational litigation and non-litigation disputes.
With respect to international commercial dispute resolution, Mr. Lee has represented many Japanese and American international hi-tech manufacturers, American multinational logistics companies, and Italian and French petroleum companies in arbitration proceedings

in both Taiwan and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Mr. Lee has also represented numerous international companies in mediation proceedings before Taiwan’s Public Construction Committee to solve disputes over the Taiwan High Speed Rail, nuclear power plants, incinerators, semi-conductor factories and equipment, gas construction and international carriage. In addition, he has successfully represented many well-known Taiwanese listed construction companies, semi-conductor factories and equipment manufacturers in arbitration proceedings regarding construction disputes, and co-represented clients with many international law firms in arbitration and litigation proceedings in Hong Kong, Singapore and Ukraine.

Mr. Lee’s experience in transnational merger and acquisition includes representing: a well-known American investment bank in its purchase of private equity funds and Taiwanese listed companies; a Japanese listed company in its purchase of Taiwanese stainless steel manufacturers; a Japanese semi-conductor equipment manufacturer in its purchase of a Taiwanese hi-tech company; a German electronics company in its purchase of a Taiwanese hi-tech company; an American international bank in its merger with a large Taiwanese bank; a British international bank in its merger with a Dutch bank in Taiwan; and many others.

As for real estate transactions, Mr. Lee has assisted an American international bank in its disposition of real estate valued over billions of dollars, an American bank in its management and lease of business buildings and a Taiwanese listed company in its legal matters regarding shopping malls.

In the field of international commerce, Mr. Lee has assisted Taiwanese companies to set up liens on the shares of foreign subsidiaries, and negotiated contracts for patent authorization for a Japanese hi-tech company and a Dutch company. Mr. Lee has also negotiated construction contracts for the Europe Cup Finals football stadium, petrochemical factories in Mid East and Thailand, APEC construction in Russia, and significant public construction projects in Taiwan.

Mr. Lee has participated in research projects of government agencies, such as “Review Project of Mergers and Acquisitions Act for Enterprises Act” by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (2006.01) and “A Study on the Models of MMA for Financial Institutes (including Financial Holding Companies)” by the Bureau of Monetary Affairs, Financial Supervisory Commission (2007.11). He is also an adjunct assistant professor in National Open University and Chungyu Institute of Technology. With great professional achievements, he has been invited to give lectures in Chinese Land Professional Training Center (Criminal Liability in Public Construction), Taiwan Construction Research Institute (Criminal Liability in Public Construction), Professional Training Program on Maintenance and Management of Bridges in 1998 held by the Institute of Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (Prevention of Criminal Liability for Construction Officers) and to be a moderator in the National Seminar on Technology Law held by National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan).
