Dr Prasenjit Mukherjee holds a Ph.D from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, apart from a Masters from the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST), Manchester, UK. He belongs to the 1980 batch of Indian Audit & Accounts Service, retiring as the Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General of India in 2017. He has also served as the Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General (Commercial) & Chairman, Audit Board, responsible for the audit of all CPSEs in India. Before that he served as the Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General (Central Receipt Audit), responsible for the audit of all Direct and Indirect Tax receipts in India such as Income Tax, Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax, collected by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC).
Dr Mukherjee had earlier served in Government of India, as Director in the Ministry of Commerce looking after India’s trade with West Europe, as Joint Secretary (Finance) in the Department of Space, and as Joint Secretary (R & D) in the Department of Atomic Energy. His international experience includes having been the External Auditor for the Organization for Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) at The Hague, and of the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome. He has also undergone trainings at the World Trade Institute in New York and at the International Law Institute in Washington D.C.
Dr Mukherjee is a member of the Indian Council for Arbitration, the Institute of Internal Auditors, Institute of Public Auditors of India, besides being empanelled with the Institute of Directors as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
Dr Mukherjee is presently the Sole Arbitrator in two arbitration cases.
