Bill Rainey
Barrister and Resolution Practitioner
A commercial mediator and barrister with over 35 years’experience, Bill has valuable experience which covers environmental, commercial and organisational dispute resolution.
His recent resolution work includes:
Environmental – complex expert witness caucusing concerning nationally significant inquiries relating to climate change planning and mitigation, water allocation, river and groundwater management, urban/rural land development conflict, motorway infrastructure development, off-shore mining, oil & gas exploration, industrial chemical use and regulation, wild and scenic river conservation.
Insurance and Construction – resolving claims between insurers and building owners concerning the rebuild of Christchurch, New Zealand, following the devastating large scale losses following the earthquakes in 2010 and 2011.
Business – resolving organisational conflict with senior leaders and teams in public and private sector organisations in New Zealand and the United Kingdom through effective business transformation and culture change methodology.
Bill is a member of the New Zealand Law Society and a member of the mediation panel of Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand. He has been a specialist building & construction mediator, vice-chair and board member of LEADR NZ (now Resolution Institute) and an independent Environmental Hearings Commissioner. He co-authored the dispute resolution section of DSL Environmental Law Handbook.
